The declaration of the 1st of September as the National Insurance Day, which took place in 2017 was a significant milestone in the history of the Insurance Industry in Sri Lanka. Thus, it gives me great pride and pleasure to be part of the continuation of this nationwide program with the 7th National Insurance Day and the Insurance Awareness Month Campaign, under the theme of “Staying Aware is Staying Protected”. National Insurance Day is not only a time of reflection, but also an opportunity to reinforce our commitment to serve and protect.
In the face of the unprecedented challenges encountered in recent times, the insurance industry has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to serve society with resilience, empathy, and innovation. Whether it was the devastating impacts of economic instability, natural disasters, a global pandemic that affected us all, or the ever-evolving risks in the digital landscape, the insurance industry has displayed remarkable adaptability. These initiatives are aimed at bridging the knowledge gap and fostering a deeper understanding of insurance concepts, benefits, and importance in individuals' lives.
The main objective of commemorating the National Insurance Day is to create greater awareness about insurance and to spread the message of protection and its value to society. We firmly believe that the intensity of such campaigns will enhance awareness on insurance and empower the public with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions when purchasing insurance. The Insurance Regulatory Commission continues to take proactive measures to heighten awareness about insurance among the public, through its dedicated team.
Thus, I take this opportunity to extend my appreciation to the Insurance Association of Sri Lanka and other stakeholders on initiatives taken in recent years and for continuing to toil towards ensuring that events of the National Insurance Day, and the programs and activations lined up for the Insurance Awareness Month campaign are successful in fulfilling the purpose.
